Overview

Working in Poland — what you need to know

Poland became Glocal Workforce Nepal's primary European destination as Central Europe's manufacturing sector expanded. Amazon's six Polish fulfilment centres, Volkswagen's Poznań plant, LG's Wrocław factories, and dozens of 3PL logistics warehouses need thousands of shift workers year-round.

A Polish National Visa (Type D) gives Schengen access, so workers can travel to Germany, Czech Republic and Austria during leave. Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków, Gdańsk and Łódź all have Nepali communities. The EU minimum wage in Poland reached PLN 4,300/month in mid-2024 — well above Gulf construction wages for comparable skill levels when converted to NPR.

Why this destination

Why Nepali workers choose Poland

EU minimum wage PLN 4,806/month (2026) — among the highest in Central Europe

Massive factory, warehouse and 3PL sector (Amazon, Volkswagen, LG)

Path to permanent EU residency after 5 years

Growing Nepali community in Wrocław, Warsaw, Kraków and Gdańsk

Schengen access opens 26 other EU countries for travel

Savings potential

Factory workers earning PLN 4,300/month pay PLN 1,200–1,800 in rent (shared), PLN 400–600 in food, and PLN 200–300 in transport — leaving PLN 1,700–2,500 (NPR 57,000–85,000) monthly savings. This consistently outperforms comparable Gulf roles when converted to NPR.

Visa & DOFE process

Step-by-step: Nepal to Poland

Poland deployment is more document-intensive than Gulf: 45–75 days total. Steps: employer's work-permit (starosta) application in Poland (7–30 days), DOFE Nepal pre-approval, medical, Type D visa at the Polish Embassy in Kathmandu (15–25 day appointment wait), and PDO. No Polish language is required for factory roles, though our PDO includes a 90-minute basics session for numbers and workplace instructions.

Worker rights and legal protections in Poland

Labour law protections

Poland is an EU member state, so workers are protected by EU labour law: minimum wage legislation, 20–26 days paid annual leave, 48-hour working week cap, mandatory overtime premiums, and National Health Insurance (ZUS). EU law prohibits nationality-based discrimination. The Polish National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) actively investigates violations. The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) covers sickness, accident and pension. Nepal does not yet have a bilateral labour agreement with Poland, but the EU framework provides strong protections regardless.

Nepal Embassy & emergency contacts

The Embassy of Nepal in Poland provides consular services, emergency repatriation, contract-dispute mediation, and passport renewal for Nepali nationals abroad. Our workers receive the embassy emergency number in their pre-departure kit.

Glocal Workforce Nepal also maintains an in-country contact for Poland who can assist with routine issues (accommodation, salary delay) before escalating to official channels.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about working in Poland

Is it safe for Nepali workers to go to Poland?+

Yes — provided you go through a DOFE-approved agency like Glocal Workforce Nepal. Your contract must be attested by both governments, your Labour Permit issued before departure, and you must attend the Pre-Departure Orientation. Avoid anyone offering free-visa or free-ticket deals without DOFE registration — these are the primary fraud vector.

What type of visa do Nepali workers need for Poland?+

The standard visa type is the Type D National Work Visa. Your employer initiates the visa process by submitting a demand letter to the relevant authority in Poland. Glocal Workforce Nepal handles the embassy attestation and visa stamping after DOFE pre-approval.

How much does it cost to go to Poland from Nepal?+

Total deployment cost depends on the destination and role. All legitimate costs are within DOFE-approved limits: typically NPR 70,000–150,000 covering agency fee, medical examination, DOFE service charge, visa fee, and pre-departure orientation. Use our DOFE Fee Estimator for an itemised breakdown, or contact us directly for a quote.

What documents are required to work in Poland?+

Standard requirements are: valid passport (minimum 6 months remaining beyond your contract end), recent passport photos (4 copies), academic or trade-test certificates, CV, and GAMCA-approved medical fitness certificate. We provide a country-specific checklist when you are shortlisted.

How long is the flight from Kathmandu to Poland?+

The flight from Tribhuvan International Airport to Poland is approximately 9 hours. Routes typically connect via Doha, Dubai or Delhi — total travel including transit is 12–18 hours.

Can I change my employer in Poland after arriving?+

EU worker-mobility rules generally allow job changes after completing the initial work-permit term. Your Single Permit or Employee Card remains valid for its duration and can typically be transferred to a new employer — check country-specific rules with our counsellors.

How do I send money home from Poland?+

Major remittance channels in Poland include IME, Prabhu, Western Union and MoneyGram, all supporting direct NPR transfers to Nepali bank accounts. Workers in Europe can also use Wise or Revolut for competitive rates. NRNA in Poland can advise on the best local options.

Do I need to speak Polish to work in a factory or warehouse in Poland?+

No Polish is required for most factory, warehouse and logistics roles. Supervisors in large multinational facilities typically use visual instructions, numbering systems and basic English commands. Our pre-departure orientation covers essential Polish workplace vocabulary (numbers, safety terms, shift commands) — about 90 minutes. Workers who stay long-term find learning basic Polish significantly helps with daily life outside the factory.

Can I travel to Germany or other countries on a Polish work visa?+

Yes. A Polish Type D National Visa gives you Schengen Zone access. You can travel to Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, France and 22 other Schengen countries during holidays or days off. Note: your Polish work permit is only valid for employment in Poland — you cannot legally work in another Schengen country on a Polish permit.
